Honeymoon in Singapore and Thailand

– Singapore

We went to Singapore and Thailand for our 10-day honeymoon on Dec 25. It was a long way but it was worth every minute. We had read that it was dry season there from the end of December to February; however, it rained for 10 min a few days. We liked its rain, too. It rains so heavily all of a sudden and stops all of a sudden. Unfortunately after we left there, we read that there was an unusual heavy flood in the southern part of Thailand where we spent our holiday.

Let me start with Singapore, the city of modernization, development, and beauty. It is settled on an island but the roads are so wide and the buildings are so high that you don’t realize its little size. We fell in love with especially its Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay. We went up the Skypark at the top of Marina Bay Sands Hotel, which had a breathtaking view. I enjoyed the yummy food in Hawker Centers in Chinatown. People speak English but their creole is called Singlish as it is affected by the other languages like Malay, Hokkin,  antonese and Tamin. In general, we walked around the city instead of using its transportation. The pictures above will talk more.

After spending only one day in Singapore, we left for Koh Samui, Thailand. It has the cutest airport we have ever seen. You feel like you arrived at a summer home with a nice garden. The bamboo-and-thatch buildings are open-sided and surrounded by tropical flowers and plants. We stayed in Bophut located near the Fisherman’s Village, a throwback to the old days on Samui with its wooden shop-houses, leisurely waterfront and plentiful restaurants. We loved the hotel we stayed, Bandara, with its amazing pools, beach, and restaurant. After spending our first day at the hotel, we were ready for the adventure. We rented electronic bikes and toured the island by ourselves. E-bikes are amazing as they allow you both to cycle and to use it as a motorbike, which is pretty useful at the hills of the island. We visited Big Buddha first and then the famous Grandpa (Ta) and Grandma (Yai). According to the legend, a tale of tragedy tinged with hope, as described on a signboard near the rocks: “A folklore of Samui Island tells the story of an old couple by the name of Ta Kreng (Grandfather Kreng) and Yai Riem (Grandmother Riem) who lived with their son in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Since their son had come of age, they felt that it was time he got married.

“One day they decided to sail to the neighbouring province of Prachuap Khiri Khan to ask for the hand of the daughter of a man named Ta Monglai. During their sea journey, their boat was seized by a storm. The old man and his wife were unable to swim ashore. They died at sea, turning into rocks as proof to the would-be bride’s parents of their true intentions. The rocks stand there to this day.”

Koh Samui has so many beautiful beaches to visit. We saw some of them while touring with our e-bikes, wishing to have much more time to lie down on each of them. Lastly, we tried the famous Thai massages (spa and food relaxation) and it is definitely a must.

After 3 days in Koh Samui, we headed to Patong, Phuket. We flew with a very small whirring airplane. It was another adventure:) Even a young woman was so scared that she started to scream and swear. We landed and arrived at our hotel after 2-hour traffic. I missed Koh Samui immediately. However, it is also such a great place that we got used to its routine easily. Unlike the couples who love resting on their honeymoon, we joined different tours each day. Without seeing Raya Island, Phi Phi Island, Maya Bay, the nightlife in Bangla Road, elephants, tigers, snorkelling, and swimming in crystal clear water,  we wouldn’t be that happy.

Sozun Ozu:

Balayimiz icin Singapur ve Tayland’i gezmeye gittik. Aralik sonundan Subat sonuna kadar yagissiz sezon oldugunu okudugumuz icin 25 Aralik – 4 Ocak tarihlerini sectik, az az yagdi bikac gun ama yagmuru bile bize ilginc ve guzel geldi. Yagmur yagarken hic usumuyor, yuzmeye devam edebiliyorsunuz. Biz dondukten sonra malesef hic beklenmedik sekilde yagmis ve guney kisimlarinda ciddi sel olmus.

Once Singapur’a vardik, tam Noel zamani oldugundan cok sakindi ortalik, bol bol yuruduk, ozellikle merkezini epey turladik, ogrendik. Marina bolgesini, Marina Bay Sands adli o unlu otelini, otelin arkasindaki bahcelerine bayildik.

Ilk gunu otelde dinlenerek, havuzunda denizinde yuzerek, masaj yaptirarak gecirdik.
