Amsterdam

I visited the capital of the Netherlands in August 2018 with 10 teenage kids from Kosovo. It was a business trip for me as my duty was to take these students to a one-week summer school in the Science Park of  University of Amsterdam. Even this campus was startling for me.

We stayed at a hostel in Oost where I could find many Turkish restaurants and markets as it is an ethnically diverse place. There is Oosterpark, Tropenmuseum, Dappermarkt, Botanical Garden Hortus, beautiful De Gooyer Wind Mill and Brewery and many other restaurants and bars.

We often bought daily GVP day pass and could travel everywhere easily. I was quite surprised to learn that you must pay the tickets only with a credit card if you buy them on the tram and as half of the students didn’t have a credit card, we were in a kind of mess. A few times, the official at the tram just looked at us and let us go in without paying. I guess we looked too many to deal with one by one 🙂

We visited the center De Wallen and the kids did a lot of shopping as they can’t find the original brands in Kosovo. They also enjoyed their time in Madame Tussaud’s Amsterdam and Amsterdam Dungeon. I had visited them before, I skipped them and enjoyed my time strolling around the streets and drinking in small cosy bars and cafes. One day we went to Museumkwartier to see I Amsterdam sign, Van Gogh Museum and Vondelpark. Another day we visited Nemo Science Museum and it has such a nice view of the city!

I fell in love with Amsterdam because of a few reasons. Firstly, it is such a green and clean place. Secondly, so happy, respectful and active people using their bikes and smiling all the time. Thirdly, it has more than one hundred kilometers of canals (grachten), about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges. It is pure beauty!

It is one of the places that you promise to yourself to come back.

Sozun Ozu:

Amsterdam’a Agustos 2018’de Kosova’dan 10 genc ogrenciyi yaz okuluna goturmek uzere gittim. Yaz okulu Amsterdam Universitesi’nin Science Park adli bir kampusundeydi. Orasi bile cok guzeldi.

Tek sorun biletleri anca kredi kartiyla alabiliyorsunuz tramvayda. Bizim ogrencilerin de bircogunun kredi karti olmayinca bizi goren yetkililer bazen aciyip bilet almadan gitmemize izin verdiler 🙂

Sehrin merkezini (De Wallen), muze bolgesinde (Museumkwartier) Van Gogh muzesini, meshur Vondelparkini, Nema Bilim Parkini ve bircok sokagini kesfettik. Her bir kosesini ayri begendik.Benim Amsterdam’a asik olmamin uc sebebi var: yemyesil ve tertemiz bi yer, herkes mutlu, sakin ama aktif (bisikletli), sehir kanallar, kopruler (1500 adet) ve adalarla (90 ada) dolu.

Ayrilirken buraya tekrar gelecegim diye kendime soz verdigim yerlerden biri.
